Awesome, that looks like it was a lot of fun!

We went to the Jamberoo Community Growers meeting yesterday - they had talks on gardening in small spaces and keeping backyard chickens. The kids potted up lettuce seedlings while the mums and dads were listening to the talks. The idea is for the kids to bring their lettuce plants back to the next meeting in a months' time to see whose is the biggest. They loved it!

Thanks Elaine.

I grew up gardening and Dad, in particular, really had a green thumb. He was always proud that his father, a dairy farmer mostly, refused to use chemicals when they were all the rage pre - 'Silent Spring'.

Many of the principles shown today were ones that Dad used (he has no time for gardening atm he says) when I was a kid.

I am currentky using the egg shells from our issa browns, crunched up, to keep slugs away. That's a Dad trick!

Great idea! Might give it a go, somewhere around our new house.
I look forward to following how the school garden grows.
In the past, I have enjoyed working at several schools where Agriculture is taught.
Since the 70s, I have only ever planted Australian plants and edibles in my gardens.

Ironically, it was my recent trip to Australia that inspired me to buy a Kindle. I was able to walk on a plane, and knowing I need to "entertain" myself over 33 hours of travel - carried only an iPhone & a Kindle. Now, I loaded up on Kindle books before I started my trip, but it was so wonderful to switch books based on my mood without having to get into my carry-on.
The best part about having it now that I'm back home - its is easier to read in bed than any book I've ever had - and is so light. After propping up Harry Potter books over the years - this is a substantial improvement :)

Enjoy your Kindle - it is not a one size fits all, but a one size fits most!

I love books and have been captured by the wonder of e-books. I have researched the Kindle and Iliad, but haven't made the jump. I liked the concept of your short story. My own desire for a portable "book" was started by the Star Trek Voyager TV series where they carry and read "data pads". I tried to read Pride & Prejudice on an Ipod but got sick of scrolling all the time.
I started reading (on paper) A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel and he talks about the move from scrolls to turning pages. Very interesting stuff, guess we've gone back with the advent of books on webpages.
I am interested to know how your e-reader goes. I do feel conflicted though - i like the feel of books (and the smell - i'm weird like that) but like the fact that i could carry many books around on one device, particularly books that i get in e-book form from Project Gutenberg.
As it is with one little boy and another child on the way, i don't get much time to read anyway. Most of my "reading" is done by listening to audio books in the car to and from work!

Must get back to Gardner. Listened to him speak years ago, was so inspiring!

How do the 'minds' meld with the MIs?

I lost him a bit when he went from 7 to 8 to ? MIs ...

Love to read the book.

Thanks for the invite to read this. I agree with the sentiment. I too have found it frustrating when others seem too preoccupied with getting through the working day to appreciate how education might be reshaped, thoughtfully, with regard to the ways in which connections may or may not be facilitated. Indeed, such concerns led me into my PhD looking at change and how it is both shaped and shaping thos involved.
A pedantic bit of feedback on my part, but i trust you are wanting constructive suggestions to make it better :)
You would strengthen this if the references made to vygotsky and Mcluhan identify what it was they had said that was important rather than lightly saying that they inform your thinking.
But hey, you are better than me...i'm skipping the work this year and only using the course to strengthen my ability to talk actor network theory.
Best wishes,
ailsa

Thanks Colin and Leila.

I need to address more 'the implications' for institutions that Colin mentions and identify, as Leila suggests, what “change needs to occur” in the classroom/learning in my next draft.
